Odyssey's Expertise

Our core competencies include:

Bulk Liquid Truck
One the most active modes within the chemical industry is liquid bulk truck transportation. The Odyssey commercial leaders have negotiated a wide variety of agreements supporting millions of tons of movements throughout North America. This involves hundreds of thousands of shipments from various production facilities to clients with disparate cargo requirements. To be successful in this activity, it is often necessary to redesign the entire network of supplier utilization across all origins and destinations to align the trucking companies with trade lanes where they can generate the greatest continuous loaded mile routing. This requires a frequent review of a customer's cargo movements and the trucking industry's capability, in order to continually adjust the routings to create the greatest value for both the trucker and the product owner.

Package Truckload and Less-Than Truckload
Odyssey’s overland packaged truckload and LTL network comprises over 10,000 active lanes with more than 250 carriers and suppliers. Odyssey manages both the commercial contracting and daily transactions including shipment planning, optimization, continuous move, multi-stop, and break-point analysis, tendering, freight audit and payment, as well as carrier performance monitoring and analysis. Odyssey’s commercial leaders have negotiated a wide variety of agreements supporting millions of tons of movements throughout North America. The Odyssey team continually evaluates network opportunities and synergies across our customer base to ensure that the highest quality service and least cost transportation is provided. Our dedicated overland professionals manage multiple customer transportation networks while simultaneously providing an integrated solution.

International Freight Forwarding

Our clients enjoy the most sophisticated Internet technology solutions including e-documents, on-line access to export shipments, and automation in all aspects of the global trade process. We handle all facets of international cargo movement including intermodal and containers, breakbulk and project, consolidation and LCL shipments. On April 20, 2004, Odyssey International was accepted as a certified partner of the Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT).

Global Ocean Cargo
The Odyssey Global Ocean Cargo team has decades of experience and a remarkable understanding of the global cargo trade flows and the intricacies of negotiating contracts with a wide variety of foreign vessel owners. In addition, team members have extensive knowledge of international trade practices and foreign country regulations necessary to effect transportation arrangements on a global basis. In the area of bulk liquid cargo, the team members have chartered vessels to move millions of tons of liquid cargo globally. In the area of dry or packaged containership trade, the team has contracted for millions of tons of cargoes to over 90 countries. These agreements have included the total field of contracting options from "door-to-door" global deliveries to a variety of complex cross-trade activities including cargoes originating in Europe with final destinations in various parts of Asia.

Railway
As a result of the industry consolidation that has occurred over the years, the United States has experienced a significant reduction in Class 1 railroads. In the current state, the industry can be characterized as having limited competition in many market areas. In some cases, the chemical industry has facilities that are only serviced by a single railroad. The lack of competition at these production sites has been viewed as a significant disadvantage. The Odyssey railway team has constructed some of the most innovative agreements within the industry to promote railroad competition and provide rate relief for chemical industry clients. Contracts have been concluded with railways to build new rail lines into production units resulting in two railroads servicing a single location previously captive to one. Team skill sets include contracting for rail storage yards, railcar acquisition, rail leasing and general railcar maintenance. In total, the Odyssey team has contracted to move over six million tons of cargo in the United States and Canada.
